Heelys: Not Just for Kids?

My Heelys - Wave style
Pretty much everyone has heard of Heelys - the shoes with a wheel in the heel. I've seen kids whizzing by in the store with them and thought "that doesn't look hard at all!" So when I was offered the opportunity to try a pair of Heelys for adults, I jumped at it.

I should let you know that I am pretty uncoordinated and clumsy. I'm sure my husband was wondering why I thought shoes with wheels was a good idea for me. But I felt up for the challenge. And well, challenge it turned out to be. I got the gray and pink Heelys and absolutely love their look. They are so cute and girly! They are also incredibly comfortable. The wheel is removable and they come with "plugs" so you can wear them as regular shoes without the wheels.

I first tried the Heelys in the house. Holding onto the kitchen counters and rolling on the tile floor, I realized this is harder than it looks! I've gotten more fearful of things, like falling on my butt or breaking something, so I'm sure that played into my lack of ability. My kitchen proved too small to really be able to try them out so I braved the store. I wore them grocery shopping, using the shopping cart for stability. Even after a few public attempts, always with a shopping cart or stroller, I am still unable to whiz around. The best I've managed is rolling on one wheel while clinging to the cart in front of me.

Even though I haven't been successful so far at really using the Heelys to their full capability, I love the shoes. I'm sure I'll watch the how-to videos again and keep practicing. Maybe one day I'll be able to prove to my kids that I can do this!

If you are one of your kids would like a pair of Heelys, you're in luck! Heelys is throwing a Black Friday special!! Between Nov 25-Nov 28, Buy any pair of Heelys, get the second pair for $25. Or buy a Nano, and get a pair of shoes for $25, and get free ground shipping on all orders!

Overall, I'm very satisfied with my Heelys and look forward to practicing until I get it.

I was provided a pair of Heelys at no cost by Heelys and B2B. I was not compensated for this review. All opinions are my own.

Carlito C. Caterpillar's MathHouse Game Card: Review and Giveaway

Looking to help your preschool or early elementary aged child build a solid math foundation? Check out Carlito C. Caterpillar's MathHouse Games. Using sensory activities and games, the Game Card set teaches 20 math steps divided into 3 stages. Each of the card has two different games to demonstrate each step. This description is taken from their website:
The set contains

  • 30 double-sided, full color, illustrated Game Cards
  • Related editorial information explaining to parents The What, Why and How of Each Step
  • Each 8" x 4" loose leaf card is printed on heavy card stock, lacquered to help protect from spills and ring bound to keep together and facilitate play
I recently had the opportunity to review the Carlito C. Caterpillar's MathHouse Game Card set. As a homeschooling mom, I'm always looking for ideas to make learning fun and make my job easier. One of my children started first grade this year and I was excited to see how I could use this Game Card set in her math lessons. I went to the website and downloaded the printable manipulative aids that go with each card. I printed the page that goes along with Step 14, Jump and Skip-Count. She was able to catch on instantly to the concept of counting by 2s. She enjoyed the worksheet I printed off for her to practice skip counting.
My youngest is only 16 months old, but it's never too early to start thinking about education. I look forward to using the Stage 1 games to teach her basic math skills.

Theo Presents: God's Love DVD Review & Giveaway

If you're looking for DVDs to teach your children about God, then you'll want to check out Theo Presents. I was able to review the new God's Love DVD, Episode 1: Saving Faith. Theo, the main character, tells the story of Abraham and Sarah and their faith in God.

Beautifully animated and designed to reach kids of all ages, Theo Presents teaches Biblical doctrines in an easy to understand format. My three children enjoyed Theo and the two mice, Belfry and Luther. At just over 9 minutes long, these videos are the perfect length for the younger crowd. There is humor added in with the seriousness of the topics to keep it light and fun. I liked that it was straightforward in its approach to the Gospel and obedience to God.

In addition to the DVD series, there is also a Sunday School curriculum available from LifeWay Christian Stores. What a great resource for churches!

Watch the FREE bonus episode Good News so that you can experience first hand what a great new series this is.

There is also a FREE app available for iPhone and iPad to download.

Join the Theo Presents Facebook page and show your support, as well as receive updates.

Order now at Amazon or enter to win one of two copies that I have to give away!

Back to Bloggin'

So, it's been awhile since you've heard from me. Life caught up with me, extreme couponing took a back burner, and well, the blog was an innocent bystander. Sure, I've still been shopping and saving money, but I haven't had as much time to spend on it.

But I'm back. Back to sharing deals, coupons and other money saving tips. I'm also going to try and expand a bit and post more family-related stuff...recipes, homeschooling tidbits, and other things that busy moms are interested in. I don't want to be just another coupon/frugal blog.

With that in mind, I am hoping to dedicate more time to blogging and get my heart back into it. I'm also in the process of redesigning the look of the blog so look for changes in the upcoming weeks.

A fresh, new look and a fresh, new perspective.
